With Hitler getting ready to invade,
Russia urgently needed to produce a motorcycle in its defense
efforts.
Russian engineers dismantled 5 BMWs from Germany, and then designed
and built a new Russian made bike in Moscow. The factory was moved
to the "URAL" mountain region, hence the name the
"Ural" motorcycle.
Over 5,000 Ural Motorcycles were manufactured for the Russian
Military during World War 2.
By the 1960's, production turned to non-military production. IMZ-Ural
is one of few manufacturers of side-car motorcycles in the world
today. |
