Knight Returning at Snowshoe GNCC - on a
Kawasaki
Defending GNCC Series and Snowshoe
Race Champion David Knight will return to the U.S. for the first time
this year for the MotorcycleUSA.com Snowshoe GNCC, round nine of the
Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series. Knight recently parted
ways with BMW and is now able to ride as a free agent.
"I thought I would do it for a bit of fun really," Knight
said. "I had a tough year with the BMW thing. Unfortunately that
didn't work out. Really, I enjoy the race. I just sort of thought I'd
get back and have fun more than anything. Once I start having fun
again results will come back hopefully."
The race, which is held this weekend, June 27-28 at the Snowshoe
Resort, is considered the toughest of the 13- stop series and offers a
$50,000 purse, including $10,000 for the overall win and another $1000
for the XC1 class victory. Knight will be riding a Kawasaki with
the GNCC number-one plate mounted to it, making him eligible for
Kawasaki's GNCC contingency program, which pays $10,000 to win the
GNCC XC1 class. Knight could potentially pocket $21,000 for winning
the three-hour event, however a host of GNCC regulars will try to make
sure he doesn't get it.
