Italian rider Valentino Rossi won the
Dutch MotoGP on Saturday to record his 100th career win and take the
overall lead in the world championship standings.
The eight-time world champion
finished five seconds clear of his Yamaha team-mate, Jorge Lorenzo of
Spain, while Australian Casey Stoner was a distant third for Ducati.
All three started the day sharing the
championship lead.
Rossi is now five points clear of
Lorenzo with another four points back to Stoner.
The Italian was on pole position but
Stoner seized the lead at the start while Lorenzo was stuck in sixth
after the first of the 26 laps despite starting from third.
Rossi soon took car of Stoner and
Lorenzo fought his way up the field and was challenging Rossi with
seven laps remaining while the Australian settled into third.
Rossi had a lead of over four seconds
with four laps remaining and was never troubled to go on and take the
race.
Stoner finished 23 seconds down.
The major casualty of the race was
Dani Pedrosa, who crashed out with 22 laps remaining as the Spaniard -
who is recovering from injury - overdid it on a corner .
