Eslick
takes Daytona 200 pole
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Defending
Daytona SuperBike champion Danny Eslick took the pole position
Thursday for the Daytona 200 AMA Pro Racing event, turning a lap at
116.092 mph at Daytona International Speedway.
Eslick, from Broken Arrow, Okla., on
a Suzuki GSX-R 600, completed the 3.51-mile road course in 1 minute,
50.085 seconds on Richie Morris Racing's No. 1 Suzuki. Fellow Suzuki
rider Martin Cardenas qualified second for the race Friday night,
two-thousandths of a second back.
Earlier Thursday, Jake Zemke, making
his debut for team owner Michael Jordan, won the AMA Pro American
SuperBike race aboard the No. 54 Suzuki.
In a tight five-bike duel, Zemke
slipped past Tommy Hayden coming to the white flag in the 15-lap event
to give Jordon his first AMA SuperBike victory.
